Pakistan’s information technology exports reached a record high of $3.2 billion in the last fiscal year, according to figures released by the Pakistan Software Export Board. The milestone represents a 28 percent increase over the previous year and marks continued strong growth in the sector despite broader economic challenges.
Freelancing income formed a significant portion of the total, with Pakistan ranking among the top five countries globally for freelance earnings. Major export destinations included the United States, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, and several European Union nations.
The government attributed the growth to investment in digital infrastructure, tax incentives for registered IT companies, and a young, English-speaking workforce capable of competing on the global stage. Several Pakistani software firms also opened new offices in Europe and North America during the year.
Industry leaders called on the government to address challenges including reliable internet connectivity in smaller cities and streamlined banking processes for receiving foreign payments to sustain and accelerate growth.
