The Lahore Metro Bus System has officially launched three new routes, significantly expanding public transport coverage across the city. The expansion connects previously underserved areas including Bahria Town, Johar Town, and the Defence Housing Authority to the existing metro network.
The new routes are expected to serve an additional 200,000 daily commuters, reducing traffic congestion on major arterial roads and cutting average travel times for passengers by up to 40 percent. Each route features modern, air-conditioned buses equipped with real-time tracking and digital payment systems.
The Punjab Mass Transit Authority stated that this expansion is part of a broader ten-year urban mobility plan for Lahore, which will eventually include an underground metro line connecting the city centre to the international airport.
Environmental groups have welcomed the development, noting that a strong public transport system reduces vehicle emissions and contributes to improved air quality in the city.
